Azerbaijan, a South Caucasus country located at the junction of the two world civilizations, is becoming one of the popular tourist destinations of the region.

The land rich with historical, cultural and natural heritage attracts visitors from all over the world. Untouched nature, mineral springs, the world’s only oil field treatment – naphthalene, a unique ancient architecture, unique culture, cuisine, and many more enable Azerbaijan to create all types of tourism, including business, sport, medical, cognitive, hunting, exotic, beach and even gastronomic.

With its towering Caucasus ranges, fertile valleys, thick forests and beautiful Caspian Sea coast, Azerbaijan is home to a remarkable natural diversity. Huge part of Azerbaijan’s territory is preserved as national parks and reserves, ranging from desert to highlands, to rolling fertile valleys, and marshlands. These landscapes offer a range of unusual flora and fauna, including ancient mountain villages.

In addition to the natural and rural attractions, Azerbaijan has a rich cuisine, changing from region to region. ‘Tasting’ Azerbaijan means enjoying juicy apples, pomegranates, grilled meats, kabab, dolma, bozbash, all perfumed with the herbs of untouched woodlands and the spices of the Silk Road.

The flow of tourists is increasing every year, so in the capital and other tourist areas there is growing number of hotels with the highest level of service.

One of Azerbaijan’s strongest assets for tourism development is its service culture – Azerbaijanis are famous for their hospitality. This culture is best reflected in the hotel and restaurant sectors.

Last year, 35 hotels were built in the country, while 25 are under construction. In general, there are more than 500 hotels in Azerbaijan.

In 10 years, foreign tourists in Azerbaijan will spend $6 billion a year, according to the report of the World Travel & Tourism Council, WTTC.

The report says that in 2016 the tourism industry of Azerbaijan provided 2.285 billion manats ($1.437 billion) or 4.1 percent of the country’s GDP.

The WTTC forecasts says that in 2017 tourism will provide 7 percent or 2.446 billion manat of GDP, in 2017-2027 the sector’s share will grow by 6.5 percent to 4.581 billion manats ($2.881 billion) or 5.9 percet of GDP.

In 2016, some 479.5 million was invested in the tourism sector of Azerbaijan, according to the report, which predicts growth by 6.2 percent in 2017, and by 4.9 percent in the next 10 years.

In connection with March holiday – Novruz Bayram, a large number of tourists came to Azerbaijan mainly from Iran, Russia and Arab countries who spent more than a week in the country.

Young leaders of the Jewish community of the USA have visited Baku International Multiculturalism Centre

Jewish students studying in US visit Baku International Multiculturalism Centre.

Young leaders of the Jewish community of the USA studying in Israel and around 50 students from US universities in the states of Michigan, Harvard, Illinois, California and Maryland have visited Baku International Multiculturalism Centre.

The delegation was informed of the activity of the centre, including its eight branches operating in the world, as well as of tolerance traditions and multiculturalism values in Azerbaijan. The guests learned that around 16,000 Jews live in Azerbaijan today.

Chief of the Israel branch of Baku International Multiculturalism Centre (BIMC) Arye Gut emphasized that today Azerbaijan is a beacon of progress and development in the Islamic world, a model of inter-civilizations and inter-religion dialogue. He also noted that despite being a predominantly Muslim country, Azerbaijan is home to people of various creeds and ethnicities. He also hailed the Azerbaijani leadership`s attention to the Jewish community in the country. He mentioned that Krasnaya Sloboda (Red village), where mountain Jews have lived for many centuries, is a unique place and source of pride of Azerbaijan.

Gut said Krasnaya Sloboda is a product of close cooperation and partnership between the Jewish and Muslim communities in Azerbaijan.

The delegation also received information of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Как результат – мы видим ежедневные новостные заголовки о компрометации клиентских данных, краже информации и миллиардах потерь в результате подобных утечек. Стоит отметить, что за последние 6 месяцев в результате различных кибератак общая сумма ущерба компаний и учреждений в Азербайджане составила более 1 млн. долларов США. Например, за последние 6 часов разные учреждения подверглись 800 тыс. кибератакам, 75% которых пришлось на долю банковского сектора”, – сказал Гачай Мирзаев.

Руководитель программ информационной безопасности Microsoft в Центральной и Восточной Европе Артем Синицын выступил на семинаре и рассказал участникам мероприятия почему традиционная парадигма информационной безопасности теряет свою актуальность, какие компоненты современной стратегии информационной безопасности являются обязательными, а также затронул способы нахождения баланса между преимуществами облачных технологий и вопросами безопасности, связанных с их использованием. Кроме этого, участники мероприятия с большим интересом встретили практические сценарии обеспечения безопасности гибридного облака.

“В Microsoft мы рассказываем своим партнерам о важности того, что не стоит довольствоваться простой защитой от какой-либо опасности, ее также необходимо своевременно выявить и дать ответ. На данном семинаре мы рассмотрели опыт борьбы против кибератак разных государственных и частных учреждений и обсудили инновационные ценности облачных решений”, – сказал Артем Синицын.

В рамках мероприятия участники семинара ознакомились с облачными сервисами безопасности Microsoft и их возможностями реализовать стратегию информационной безопасности.

This month Azerbaijan’s capital Baku will become a paradise for sport fans, since the country has scheduled several major international sporting events.

Russian famous tourist service included Baku in Top 3 most popular cities to visit sporting events in May for Russian tourists.

The “City of Winds” Baku going to host Tour d`Azerbaijan, was placed second following Moscow, which will host Ice Hockey World Championship and leaving behind Barcelona to host Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe.

The UCI 2.1 five-day Tour d’Azerbaidjan stage race held from May 4 to 8 will involve 21 teams from 19 countries. Tour d’Azerbaidjan 2016 will be the fifth edition of the event, which started in 2012 as the Heydar Aliyev Anniversary Tour (U23) and in 2012 – the tour became an annual event, later being transformed into Tour d’Azerbaidjan.

The international tour will again take the peloton on a trip across Azerbaijan – from the Caspian shores to the Caucasus Mountains. The race will be held across Baku, Sumgayit, Absheron, Ismayilli, Gabala, Mingachevir and Sheki.

Recently, Baku once again proved that the city is one of the leading sports capitals, by holding Baku Marathon-2016, which brought together 7,000 runners to overcome a 21km distance.

To date, such marathons have been held in London, Paris, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, Barcelona, Istanbul and other cities and by hosting the event Baku stood on a par with these cities.

Up to now, Azerbaijan has successfully hosted over 300 international sports events, including European and world championships, which increased the international Olympic family`s confidence in the country.

This summer Baku will host one of the world’s richest forms of motorsport to be held on the streets of the country’s booming capital Baku for the first time. Scheduled for June 17-19 the Baku City Circuit will be the second longest F1 track on the calendar, with a length slightly over six kilometers as an anti-clockwise layout.

Baku 2015 Opening Ceremony claims to six Emmy Awards


The impressive Opening Ceremony of the Baku 2015 European Games left positive traces in minds after becoming a reality last year. The world saw the rich Azerbaijani culture, blending unique features of East and West.

And now almost one year later there is pleasant opportunity to remember the historical date — June 12 again, as the grandiose ceremony has been nominated for the 43rd annual edition of the Daytime Emmy Awards.

The Daytime Emmy Awards has been honoring excellence in all fields of daytime programming for 43 years. The Emmy is awarded in different categories, including acknowledgements for series, performers and all other technical and creative areas.

Azerbaijan will claim to as much as six awards including Best Directing Special Class, Best Art Direction, Best Lighting Direction, Best Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing, Best Music Direction and Composition and Best Costume Design/Styling.

The grand opening ceremony of the inaugural European Games on June 12, which astonished all of Europe with its Azerbaijani culture-themed production, was a spectacular and memorable kick off to a momentous sporting event.

As many as 68,000 people in Baku’s Olympic stadium along with millions around the world tuning in watched the opening ceremony of the long-awaited Baku 2015, welcoming 6,000 athletes from 50 European nations in 20 sports between June 12 and 28.

A team of world-renowned artistic and production team provided audiences around the world with breathtaking performances of traditional Azerbaijani folk and classical music, poems from famed national poet Nizami Ganjavi, and showcased the national symbols of Azerbaijan like carpets and the pomegranate.

Pop singer Lady Gaga surprised audiences with a moving rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, adding a special touch to the spirit of the event.

Artistic director of the opening ceremony of the first European Games, the world-famous professional Dimitris Papaioannou also nominated in the ORIGINS category in two awards such as Outstanding Directing Special Class and Outstanding Art Direction / Set Decoration / Scenic Design.

Papaioannou received the Golden Cross of the Order of Honor from the President of Greece for outstanding artistic achievements following his works at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Since then, he has created several groundbreaking shows that have been performed all over the world to a combined audience of hundreds of thousands.

“My appointment as the official in charge to create the Baku 2015 Opening Ceremony is both an honor and a challenge,” he commented his participation in the project last summer. “My aim is to tell a universal human story using elemental Azerbaijani ingredients in a way that is contemporary, inventive and playful, but always respectful of the culture’s enormous richness and depth.”

Winners will be revealed during the Creative Arts Emmys on April 29, followed by the main ceremony on May 1 in Los Angeles, California.
