Members of the Azerbaijani diaspora created an AI–based electronic medical record system in the USA

Start-up project carried out by Vagif Kazimli, Yunus Kazimli, and Yusif Gurbanli who are Azerbaijani students at the University of Miami, ranked among the top universities in the United States, has generated great interest.

Our compatriots created an artificial intelligence (AI)–based new generation electronic medical record (EMR) system. The team is preparing to present this project at the “eMerge Americas 2026” technology conference and exhibition, which will be held in Miami on April 22–24 and will bring together more than 20,000 participants from over 60 countries. They have been invited to the event both as keynote speaker at the panel on “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare”, and as sponsoring participants.

The electronic health records platform is designed to reduce doctors’ daily workload, optimize the management of medical data, and support the clinical decision-making process through artificial intelligence. The project is considered an important step toward increasing efficiency in the healthcare system.

Furthermore, the project has been the winner of the start-up pitch competition, held as part of the “University Student Start-up Accelerator – USTAAR program organized by the University of Miami and has received an investment of 100.000 U.S. dollars. At the same time, the start-up project has also been awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Innovation Fund.

The main purpose of the platform is to reduce the time doctors spend on documentation and enable them to spend more time interacting with patients. The system also aims to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services by ensuring faster and more accurate processing of medical data.

The founder of the project Vagif Kazimli noted: “The project was recently presented at a summit held at an artificial intelligence laboratory operating in Miami. Our main goal in developing this system was to simplify doctors’ work and to provide smarter, and more efficient solutions in the healthcare system. The other members of our team – Yunus Kazimli and Yusif Gurbanli, later joined the project and made a significant contribution to its development. Currently, the start-up project is set to be piloted in several leading hospitals in the United States. We hope that this project will also be implemented in Azerbaijan in the future. Our goal is to accelerate the transition to a new stage in the field of electronic medical records in our country, while ensuring more efficient and higher-quality services for citizens through a centralized, artificial intelligence-supported platform.

It should be noted that Yunus Kazimli participated in the 2nd US-Azerbaijani Youth Forum held at George Mason University in Virginia, USA, in 2025.
