AZAL to increase flights to U.S.

AzalBy the end of this year, AZAL, the biggest Azerbaijani airlines is expected to receive two Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircrafts, Deputy Head of AZAL Sabir Ilyasov informed.

Now all the preparations are underway for the event.

“The aircrafts have already been ready and we will receive them in a short time,” Ilyasov noted.

He also added that the new aircrafts will be delivered to the country with an interval of one month.

With a fleet consisting of Boeing 757-200, Boeing 767-300, Airbus 319, Airbus A320, Airbus A340-500, Embraer ERJ 170-100LR and Embraer ERJ 190-100, Azerbaijani airlines is cooperating with about 60 foreign airlines throughout the world.

Coming to the issue of passenger flow growth, Ilyasov said that AZAL may increase the number of flights to the U.S.

On September 24, the company launched the first flight Baku- New York. Having departed at 06:00, the Airbus-340 aircraft landed in the John Kennedy airport at 09:30 (at 16:30 Baku time).

“For the present, the flights will be carried out two times in a week. But after transition to the winter time, the number of the flights will reach three times per week,” he noted. “With increasing of passengers’ number, the flights can be increased.”

In this connection, AZAL conducts negotiations with the regional airports which can carry passengers from the regions of the country to Baku and then to the U.S.

Touching upon the issue of opening new flights to further distances, Ilyasov stressed that the company develops opportunities for flights to Southeast Asia countries.

AZAL also plans to increase the number of its direct flights to European countries in connection with holding 2015 European Games in Baku. Meanwhile, it is expected that the company will cooperate with other airlines to organize connecting flights.
