Black January victims honored in Los Angeles

Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Los Angeles has organized a commemorative event on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the Black January tragedy.

The ceremony started with a minute of silence for victims of the January tragedy.

The event brought together representatives of foreign consulates operating in Los Angeles, science and culture figures, as well as representatives of the U.S. Jewish Committee, staff of the local universities and community members.

Azerbaijan’s Consul in Los Angeles, Nasimi Agayev, speaking at the event, informed participants about the tragic events of 20 January.

He said despite the step of the Soviet regime that was aimed to suppress the idea of ​​freedom and independence, Azerbaijan gained independence and build sovereign state.

Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan International Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Betty Blair also shared her opinion on the tragedy.

Moreover, Balir told about world-famous National Geographic’s photographer Reza Deghati, who visited Azerbaijan’s capital to make this tragedy known all over the world.

Then, a photo-exhibition, reflecting the tragedy was held.
