Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today left for New York to attend and chair a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on “Strengthening the partnership synergy between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation” under Azerbaijan’s presidency over the Council.
Minister Mammadyarov will deliver a speech at the meeting, and a statement of Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the UN Security Council will be issued at the end of the event. As the author of this first initiative on strengthening the partnership synergy between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Azerbaijan has set as priority goals of its Presidency of the UN Security Council further development of this issue and determination of new forms of cooperation between the two organizations.
Azerbaijan has chaired the UN Security Council since October 1, 2013
