I write to send you my best wishes as you embark on a new term as President. I appreciate the work Azerbaijan, the United States and our allies have done to advance our mutual security and regional interests.
Azerbaijan`s position in the Caucasus region ensures it will be a vital part of the economic, energy, and political developments of the area. Our shared strategic interests include Baku`s active participation in the NATO Partnership for Peace program and your country`s assistance with recent U.S. and allied military efforts in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Hopefully our two nations can continue to work closely together to advance these shared strategic and security interests.
In the development of Caspian Sea energy, Azerbaijan can play a crucial role in promoting needed alternative transportation network. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline project shows great promise in providing a new southern corridor to transport natural gas to Azerbaijan`s United States and European trading partners.
