Delegate from Guam to U.S. House of Representatives issues statement on Black January and Khojali Massacre
News from AzerTAc.
Delegate from the United States territory of Guam to the United States House of Representatives Madeleine Bordallo has issued a statement on the Black January and the Khojali Massacre.
The U.S. Official noted that Azerbaijan’s pro-Moscow regime grew weaker after Black January tragedy and by 1991, popular pressure resulted in restoration of independence of Azerbaijan.
Madeleine Bordallo underlined that today, Azerbaijan has developed into a thriving country with double digit growth, in large part due to a freely-elected president and parliament, free market reforms led by the energy sector, and most importantly, no foreign troops on its soil.
“I also rise to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the Khojali massacre perpetrated by Armenian armed forces on February 25 through February 26, 1992 in the town of Khojali in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. Khojali, now under the occupation of Armenian armed forces, was the site of the largest killing of ethnic Azerbaijani civilians in the course of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Khojaly, once the home to 7,000 people, was completely destroyed. Six hundred thirteen people were killed, of which 106 were women, 83 were children and 56 were purported to have been killed,” Madeleine Bordallo added.
