A special event has been organized at the United Nations Headquarters on the International Day of Nowruz.

APA reports quoting the UN information center that addressing the event, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that this holiday symbolizes harmony with nature, human solidarity and a new beginning.

“These are values required to eliminate the problems on climate change, poverty and settlement of long-standing conflicts,” – said Ban Ki-moon.

On February 23, 2010, the UN General Assembly declared 21 March as the International Day of Nowruz on the initiatives of Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, Macedonia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey.

In 2009, this holiday was included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
