The prospects of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations were discussed at one of the oldest universities of the United States – the College of William & Mary. Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. told APA that addressing the professors and students of the College of William & Mary, the second oldest university of the U.S. located in a historic Williamsburg city of Virginia, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov spoke about the current state, problems and future prospects of the Azerbaijan-U.S. relations.

Speaking about the statehood traditions of Azerbaijan, Suleymanov underlined that like the U.S. Constitution, which is the indicator of the intention of American people, Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s Declaration of Independence also reflects high humanism ideas. He said that the same principles are followed in the internal and foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan that is the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Noting the strategic character of the relations between the two countries the Ambassador said that Azerbaijan shares common interests with the U.S. in the fight against terrorism and energy projects. He said the reliable partnership was established between the countries.

Touching on regional energy and infrastructure projects, Suleymanov said Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and TANAP projects would contribute to the general view and environment of the region and noted the necessity of the political will of the U.S. government in the implementation of these projects.

Suleymanov gave detailed information on Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and said that fair solution to the conflict by the Minsk Group, one of the co-chairs of which is the U.S., would serve to the public welfare of the Azerbaijani and Armenian people and open new perspectives for the development of the region.

During his visit to Virginia Suleymanov met Mayor of the city of Williamsburg Clyde Haulman, they exchanged views on the potential opportunities for collaboration.
