House of representatives of New Mexico adopts resolution on Azerbaijan
The plenary session of the House of Representatives of New York adopted a resolution on the importance of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and US on 28 January.
According to the news service for the General Consulate of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, the resolution adopted by the deputies unanimously says that Azerbaijan which restored its independence in 1991 strengthened the sovereignty and independence over the past 20 years by becoming one of the fastest developing economies in the region.
Azerbaijan’s election in 2011 as a nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council is an obvious example of the growing role of the country in protection of peace and security in the Middle East and its growing potential.
It is also noted that the United States and UN recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The resolution says that the United States and Azerbaijan have established strong strategic partnership based on common values, interests and views. Azerbaijan is a strong ally and strategic partner of the United States in such an important region as the Caspian Sea. All the same, Azerbaijan provides comprehensive assistance to US after the 11 September terror act, sends its peacekeeping troops to Afghanistan and the two countries maintain successful cooperation in fighting proliferation of mass weapon and combating terrorism.
The document also highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s contribution to provision of the energy security of the United States and Europe. The resolution especially notes that Azerbaijan is a secular state with an ancient ethnos and traditions of religious tolerance.
It also notes the importance attached to developing relations with New Mexico and the functioning of the honorary consulate of Azerbaijan in Santa Fe. In conclusion, the resolution notes the necessity for the further continuation of ties with such ally countries as Azerbaijan.
This is the first resolution adopted by the parliament of New Mexico in relation to Azerbaijan.
