In February 2013, Azerbaijani-Americans will commemorate the 21st anniversary of Khojaly Massacre, the largest mass killing of civilians in the course of the 1991-94 Nagorno-Karabakh War between the South Caucasus nations of Armenia and Azerbaijan. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian forces, supported by Russia’s 366th motorized infantry regiment, occupied the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly and brutally massacred its fleeing residents. 613 civilians including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elders were tortured to death in a freezing cold, up to 2,000 were reported missing.
